What is a grace period?

The grace period is a specific timeframe in the domain lifecycle that allows for domain name renewal without additional fees or penalties after a domain has expired. This "safety net" helps domain owners restore their domain names that have accidentally expired without paying an extra fee, such as during the redemption period. During the grace period, the domain name is inactive, meaning that its associated website is offline and its associated email addresses cannot be used. The domain will be active again as soon as it has been renewed.

The length of the grace period varies by registrar and extension. If the domain is not renewed during this time, it will enter a redemption period with higher renewal costs.
