What is Domain Renewal?

Domain renewal is the process of extending the registration period for a domain name. When you buy a domain, you are essentially “renting” it for a specific period of time, usually between one and ten years. To keep ownership and control of the domain name, you need to renew it before it expires.

Domain renewal involves paying a fee to the domain registrar, the company that you registered your domain with. If you don’t renew your domain before the expiration date, it will enter a grace period. During the grace period, you can still renew your domain, but you may have to pay additional fees to do so. After the grace period has passed, the domain is deleted and becomes available for others to register.

Example:

Imagine you registered the domain "example.com" for one year on January 1, 2020. The initial registration is valid until January 1, 2021. To keep ownership of "example.com" and keep your website online, you have to renew the domain before it expires by paying a renewal fee to the registrar. .If you forget to renew your domain or choose not to do so, the domain becomes available for others to register.
