What is a SOA record?

A SOA (Start of Authority) record is a record that defines the authoritative information about a DNS zone. It includes essential details such as the primary nameserver for the zone, the email address of the domain administrator, the domain's serial number, and several timers that control the refresh, retry, and expiration intervals for the zone's data. The SOA record is the first record in a zone file and ensures proper coordination and synchronization between DNS servers, helping maintain consistency and reliability in the domain's DNS information.
