What is S/MIME ?

An S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) certificate is a type of digital signature certificate for secure email communications that is particularly used in business environments. S/MIME works by enabling a combination of encryption for privacy and digital signatures for authentication, ensuring that emails are both secure from eavesdroppers and verified as genuinely from the sender. Just like other types of digital certificates, S/MIME works with public and private keys, and certificates are issued by the responsible Certificate Authority.
