What is domain tasting?

Domain tasting is a practice that involves registering numerous domain names temporarily to test their profitability before committing to full registration. This is done during the five-day Add Grace Period provided by domain registries at the beginning of the registration period, allowing the registrant to assess traffic and potential revenue without any costs. During this period, a registration must be fully refunded by the registry if canceled.

Critics argue that domain tasting exploits loopholes in the system by registering many domains and dropping those that do not generate enough revenue within the grace period. This artificially inflates registration numbers, creating competition for desirable domain names and making it harder for legitimate users to register them.
