Meet Team Openprovider: Dushan

Have you ever been curious to meet the people behind the domains? In this new series of blog posts, we are introducing you to various members of our global, fully remote team.

This week, we are introducing you to Dushan (36), who works as a Data Engineer in our Finance team.

Tell us something about yourself!

My name is Dushan Chathuranga Basnayaka and I am from Colombo, Sri Lanka. I work as a Data Engineer for Openprovider. I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Kelaniya. In my free time, I like to meditate by visiting temples, listening to music. and doing charity work. I also like to travel across the country, seeking beautiful nature destinations.

What does an average day in your role look like?

In the first half of my working day, I am mainly busy with our ETL and Tableau report updates. Afterward, we have our 15-minute team meeting, called a huddle, to talk about daily operations and challenges. We also discuss how we spent the last day work-wise, and talk about some personal matters too. On top of that, we have internal meetings about our Rocks (quarterly challenges), as well as discussions with other teams regarding their reports and dashboard requirements. I am also working to deliver requested tasks to subordinates as soon as possible.

Which achievement (of yourself, your team, or the company) are you most proud of?

As a team, we modified our ETL and report updates more accurately with less time consumption. I am also very proud to be a member of our ISO 27001 implementation team.

What are your favorite things about working remotely? And is there something you like less about it?

As I hate commuting to work in the morning in busy traffic, remote working is the best thing that has happened to me in my career. It has increased my work-life balance a lot. At Openprovider, we do a lot of online events and we use the latest technologies for communicating at work. On top of that, we have an offline event with the Sri Lankan team every three months, so I don’t feel like I am missing something by working remotely.

What do you like the most about working at Openprovider?

When I joined Openprovider, I was amazed by the working culture and the people. I love to work with this international team of people from over 16 different countries across the globe. Their diverse cultures bring new knowledge and experiences to me every day.
