Two new TLDs have launched: .ing and .meme!

What are you wait.ing for? One week after the launch of .music, two new, versatile top-level domains (TLDs) have entered their Sunrise Phase: .ing and .meme! It is now possible to register your trademarked names for both extensions through the control panel. General Availability for both will start on December 5, 2023.

Why an .ing or .meme domain?

.ing and .meme are the latest members of the steadily growing Google Registry family, which already includes well-used new gTLDs like .app and .dev. A .ing domain is a suitable choice for any business or website that wants to convey a sense of dynamism and movement through its domain name. There are many possibilities for creative domain hacks here. What do you think of an original domain name like dosometh.ing or innovat.ing?

Meanwhile, the .meme extension was created to serve the world of internet culture. It would be a great choice for platforms and social networks that people use to share and discuss memes with each other. 

Practical information

There will be no special requirements in place to register a .ing or .meme domain name. Registrations will be open to anyone! Domain names should be between 1 and 63 characters in length, while the registration period can be anywhere between 1-10 years. Premium domains will be available to register at special prices. IDN registrations are expected to be permitted.

As per usual for extensions from the Google Registry, using a valid SSL certificate is a requirement for using a .ing or .meme domain. In case no valid SSL certificate has been installed, the domain will be unable to load in all modern browsers.

Launch phases and pricing for the .ing domain extension

The launch of .ing will be held in three phases:

• Sunrise Phase: September 20, 2023 – October 4, 2023. During this phase, verified trademark holders will be able to register their trademarked domain names. Please see the bottom of this article for more information about the Sunrise Phase.
• Early Access Phase: October 31, 2023 – December 5, 2023. During this phase, anyone who is interested will be able to register a .ing domain at special prices, which will slowly decrease as the phase progresses.
• General Availability: from December 5 onwards. As of this date, anyone will be able to directly register their .ing domains at Openprovider for regular prices.

You can see an overview of all prices that will be charged during Early Access in the table below. New “phases” will start and end at 16:00 UTC, and all prices shown are excluding the ICANN fee.

During General Availability, the Member price for .ing registrations, renewals, and transfers will be $10/year. Non-Members will be able to register and transfer domains for $12/year and renew them for $17/year. The restore fee will be set at $50 for Members and $55 for non-Members. All prices exclude the ICANN fee.

Additional information about the Sunrise Phase

Registrations during the Sunrise Phase are only open to holders of TMCH-verified trademarks. In order to register your own or your customers’ trademark(s) during the Sunrise Phase, we require the following:

• SMD file from TMCH.
• Domain name(s) to register.
• Acknowledgement of pricing: $10 for registrations, and $20 (Members) / $35 (non-Members) for renewals, excluding the ICANN fee.
